Another Restoration Tragedy
Look what happens when you try to "restore" painted tile by sandblasting it. You remove the glaze and color too. It's a tragic fiasco. Witness the historic Ternary Building, and it's devastated tile.

The result of sandblasting
Here you can see some pretty sad looking tile. The famous Batchelder glaze is gone. One can presume that sometime between the 1930's and the 1970's these tiles, and this architectural style, fell extremely out of fashion so to "modernize" the building the owner probably painted the tile white, no doubt many times before it was decided to reveal the tile again, regrettably by sandblasting.
